Regional Archive
Region Skåne holds and preserves public records in order to respect the principle of public access to information. Additionally, the Regional Archive caters to the needs of research, the operations of Region Skåne, and the legal system.
The Regional Archive is the central archive of Region Skåne. The preservation of records at the Regional Archive is carried out as per the Archives Act (1990:782). Our commission includes making our joint cultural heritage accessible to researchers, members of the public, and healthcare staff.
Healthcare information, such as hospital records, constitute almost 80 percent of the total archive. Other examples of material in the collections include minutes and other documents concerning political processes and the history of the county council, blueprints, education transcripts and maps.

Public Records
The right to access public records is a fundamental principle in Sweden, regulated in the Constitution. The main rule is that all documents received by Region Skåne or created within our organisation are public.
In some cases there are provisions on secrecy that restrict the right to access public and official records. These provisions are found in the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act (2009:400). For example, access to medical records is regulated due to the right to personal integrity, and many of the records held by the Regional Archive may therefore be classified.
