How we finance research
Research run within Region Skåne’s operations is financed by Region Skåne itself, as well as by state funds and through foundations and donations.
Important sources of funding for the research studies that are run include ALF (the Medical Training and Research Agreement – Avtal om Läkarutbildning och Forskning), the Swedish Research Council, the Swedish Cancer Society, the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation, Regional Research Support, and R&D funds.
EU funds also finance projects in Region Skåne. The vast majority of EU funds finance clinical projects in health care, but the region also runs projects in culture, traffic, and regional social and business development. Region Skåne also funds infrastructure as support for research, and research carried out by universities.
R&D Funds
R&D funds are a recurring item in the annual budget of the Health and Medical Services Committee. These funds finance research time and infrastructure for clinical research within Region Skåne’s health care operations.
