Educated within the EU/EEA in a profession requiring a license

Work with us in Region Skåne! If you were educated in healthcare in an EU/EEA country in a licensed profession, you will need to apply for a Swedish licence to work in the profession.

Swedish licence to practise

Region Skåne’s International Office can assist you in obtaining a Swedish licence to practise.

You can apply for a licence to practise from the National Board of Health and Welfare, which sets the requirements for licensed professions within Swedish healthcare. Find out more about the application process and apply at the National Board of Health and Welfare’s website.

Introduction programme for those who were educated within the EU/EEA

If you were educated in healthcare in a country within the EU/EEA, you will be offered an introduction to the Swedish healthcare system through Region Skåne’s tailored introduction programme.

The programme includes a theoretical section with study materials, and a practical section in which you will follow healthcare professionals within your licensed profession for two days. The aim is to give you an insight into how the Swedish healthcare system works, focusing on the work environment, healthcare culture and communication.

Language requirements 

In order to obtain a Swedish licence to practise and work within Swedish healthcare, you must have good knowledge of the Swedish language. Equivalent knowledge of Danish or Norwegian is also accepted.

Citizens of non-EU/EEA countries

If you are a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA and were educated within the EU/EEA, you will also need a work permit or the right to work in Sweden.
