Laws and legislations

Your rights in health care emanate from the provisions of the Health and Medical Services Act, the Patient Safety Act, national legislation and regional provisions.

Health and Medical Services Act

The Health and Medical Services Act (hälso- och sjukvårdslagen) is about how health care in Sweden is to be organised and run. It is based on the fundamental idea that all people in Sweden should receive good and safe health care on equal terms.

Patient Safety Act

The Patient Safety Act (patientsäkerhetslagen) is about the responsibility of Region Skåne and other health care providers to ensure that health care is run safely, and about the patient being able to report wrongs in health care.

Regional provisions

In addition to national legislation, there are regional provisions, concerning, for instance, the cost of a visit.
